Slate Privacy Policy

Effective October 24, 2026

Slate is a video camera and grading app for iPhone made by Alex Goeke, trading as Alexander Creative, San Antonio, Texas. This page explains what Slate does with your information. The short version: Slate collects nothing. Your footage stays on your phone.

No account, no tracking

Slate has no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no server. It doesn't connect to the internet at all. If you've opted in on your iPhone, Apple may send anonymous crash and usage reports to developers; that's Apple's setting, not Slate's, and you can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Your footage stays on your phone

Slate records to its own folder on your iPhone, which you can see in the Files app. Clips are never uploaded. Grades you make in Develop are saved as small files beside each clip, and the clip itself is never rewritten. When you export, the new file goes where you choose: Slate's folder, the Files app, or your Photos library.

Permissions

  • Camera: to show the preview and record video.
  • Microphone: to record sound with your video.
  • Photos (add only): to save a finished clip to your library when you ask. Slate can't read your library.

You can change any of these in Settings › Slate.

Settings and crash notes

Slate remembers how you set it up, your presets and your grade recipes, on your phone only. If Slate crashes, it keeps a short note on your phone about what it was doing, so it can show you on the next launch. That note never leaves your phone unless you choose to send it to us.

Support email

If you email us, we receive your email address, any name you give and what you write. We use it only to answer you and delete it within 12 months of your last message. Email is hosted by Google Workspace in the United States.

Children

Slate isn't directed at children. If a child emails us, we delete the message once we know.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us. If you're in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. We answer within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
